Dina El Wedidi is an Egyptian singer, composer, and producer, born in Giza in 1987, who began with traditional Egyptian folk through the Warsha theatre troupe and the Habaybena band. She combines contemporary sounds with her roots in Egyptian vocal music, coming to prominence around the 2011 Arab Spring. She spent several years with the cross-border Nile Project and won a Rolex Mentor and Protege award that placed her under the guidance of Brazilian songwriter Gilberto Gil. Her albums include her 2014 debut Turning Back and the sound-collage project Slumber.
