Biography
Emel Mathlouthi is a Tunisian singer-songwriter whose protest song Kelmti Horra (My Word Is Free) became an anthem of the Tunisian revolution and the wider Arab Spring, earning her the title of voice of the Tunisian revolution. After her music was banned at home, she left Tunisia in 2008 and built an international career, releasing her acclaimed debut album Kelmti Horra on Harmonia Mundi in 2012. Her music fuses Arabic song with folk, trip-hop, and electronic production, and she has performed everywhere from the Nobel Peace Prize concert to major world stages. Now based between New York and Tunis, she continues to combine music with activism.
