Oum, born Oum El Ghait Benessahraoui, is a Moroccan singer-songwriter raised between Casablanca and Marrakesh, celebrated for fusing traditional Moroccan music with jazz, soul, gospel, afrobeat, and Sufi influences. Her international breakthrough came with the 2013 album Soul of Morocco, which blended North African rhythms with global styles and her own Sahrawi and Gnawa roots. Her music embodies the layered European, African, and Oriental heritage of Morocco. She continued that path with her 2024 live album Dakchi, recorded in Marrakesh.
