Biography
SANAM is a Beirut sextet that fuses traditional tarab and modern Arabic poetry with experimental noise rock, krautrock, free jazz and electronics. The band came together in 2021 after being invited to perform with Faust’s Hans Joachim Irmler at Beirut’s Irtijal festival. Its lineup features Sandy Chamoun on vocals, Antonio Hajj on bass, Farah Kaddour on buzuq, Anthony Sahyoun on guitar and synth, Pascal Semerdjian on drums and Marwan Tohme on guitars. Their debut album Aykathani Malakon, recorded entirely live without overdubs, was picked by The Guardian as a five-star album of 2023.
