Som3a, born Ismail in Baghdad, is part of Iraq’s new wave of rap. He began making music in 2021 and committed to it fully in 2023, collaborating with regional peers across the Gulf and North Africa. He blends traditional Iraqi maqamat with hard-hitting trap, moving fluidly between trap, mumble and dancehall. His hybrid sound bridges local aesthetics and global rap formats.
