Emsallam, born Emsallam Hdaib, is a Jordanian-Palestinian audiovisual artist, rapper and painter who identifies as a second-generation Palestinian refugee, born and raised in Jordan. He studied Fine Arts at the University of Jordan and later completed a master’s in ceramics in Moscow. A vocal activist, he uses his art and music to challenge taboos around gender, sexuality and freedom of expression. His 2016 debut The Last Step is often cited as one of the first full trap albums from Jordan, and he has continued with releases such as Post-Colonialism and Dyslexia.
