Biography
Youssra ElHawary is an Egyptian accordionist, singer, songwriter, and composer, born in 1983, and a prominent voice in Cairo’s independent music scene. Her songs mix alternative folk, French chanson, indie rock, and jazz with wry social and political commentary. She broke through in 2012 with El Soor (The Wall), a satirical song filmed at a barrier near Tahrir Square that drew wide attention during Egypt’s revolutionary period. In 2017 she released her debut album No’oum Nasyeen.
