Jawhar

Jawhar is the project of Tunisian singer-songwriter Jawhar Basti, who grew up in the southern suburbs of Tunis and later settled between Tunis and Brussels. His music joins anglophone folk traditions, with Nick Drake a stated influence, to North African chaabi, sung entirely in Tunisian dialect. His albums include Quibla Wa Qobla (2014), Winrah Marah, and the 2022 record Tasweerah, performed with a full band. The result is intimate, mysterious songwriting that feels both contemporary and timeless.
