Fairuz

1950–present

Biography

Fairuz is one of the most celebrated voices in Arab music, a Lebanese singer whose career began in the late 1940s as a radio chorus member before rocketing to stardom with her breakout hit in the early 1950s. Working for decades with composers Assi and Mansour Rahbani, she built a catalog spanning devotional songs, folkloric musicals, and modern compositions later written by her son Ziad Rahbani. Widely regarded as a unifying cultural figure across the Arab world regardless of political divides, she has sold well over 100 million records and remains one of the best-known Middle Eastern artists of all time. Now in her nineties, she continues to be a living symbol of Lebanese cultural identity.
