Biography
Imarhan is a Tuareg desert-blues quintet formed in 2006 in Tamanrasset, southern Algeria, their name meaning those who are close to my heart. Mentored and produced early on by Tinariwen, they pair ancestral Tamashek poetry and traditional rhythms with the urban, globally curious sensibility of their generation. Their sound folds pan-African rhythms, Algerian music, and funk into the desert-blues template. Their albums include their self-titled debut and the 2022 record Aboogi, recorded in a studio they built in the Algerian desert.
