KÁRYYN, born Kárin Tatoyan, is a Syrian-Armenian-American composer, vocalist, and electronic producer. Raised between the United States and frequent summers in Aleppo, Syria, she cites that city as a foundational influence on her musical identity. She studied under experimental composer Pauline Oliveros, whose Deep Listening philosophy shaped her post-digital style that pairs operatic vocals with experimental electronics. She has released work including the album The Quanta Series and composed music for avant-garde opera in collaboration with director Samantha Shay.
