Shabjdeed

Biography

Shabjdeed, the stage name of Oday Abbas, is a Palestinian rapper born in 1995 in Kafr ‘Aqab and based in Ramallah, widely regarded as one of the defining voices of contemporary Palestinian hip-hop. A co-founder of the independent Ramallah label BLTNM, he raps in Palestinian Arabic with a nonchalant, wordplay-heavy style laced with sarcasm, drawing on the everyday life of a West Bank generation that came of age after the intifadas. His 2019 album Sindibad el Ward, made with producer Al Nather, is frequently cited as a turning point for Arab hip-hop, and its track Mtaktak was named by critic Ma’an Abu Taleb on a BBC list of the greatest hip-hop songs. He also reached a mass audience through Inn Ann, his viral 2020 collaboration with Daboor.
