Biography
TootArd, whose name means strawberries in Arabic, is a Syrian band from Majdal Shams in the Golan Heights, founded in 2010 by brothers Hasan and Rami Nakhleh. They describe their sound as mountain rock reggae, interweaving West African, Saharan, and Caribbean strands with classical Arab modalities. Their album Laissez Passer (2017) reflects on the statelessness of the Druze community of the northern Golan Heights, and was followed by Migrant Birds in 2020. From their beginnings in the Golan the band has gone on to tour Europe and international festival stages.
