Afous d’Afous is a Tuareg band from the Tamanrasset region of southern Algeria, formed in 2011 by five musicians devoted to the music of their region. Their sound centers on driving electric guitar and the soulful voice of Kader Tarhanine, set against call-and-response choruses and uptempo desert rhythms. Alongside the classic Tuareg guitar aesthetic they fold in pitch-bending synthesizers, dub reverb, and even tabla and sitar. They tour constantly across the Sahara, playing to sold-out crowds in cities like Bamako, Niamey, and Agadez.
