Bashar Murad is a Palestinian pop artist from East Jerusalem who blends contemporary pop production with Middle Eastern instrumentation and sharply social lyrics. He began by posting cover videos online in the late 2000s before turning to original music, and broke through internationally in 2019 via a collaboration with Icelandic band Hatari. His songs tackle gender roles, political struggle, and LGBTQ+ life in Palestinian society, most notably on his 2021 debut EP Maskhara and the 2024 single Nafas. In 2024 he competed in Iceland’s Songvakeppnin selection with Wild West, finishing second, and performed at the Falastinvision protest event in Malmo.
